Studies have revealed that chronic pain provokes emotional reactions based on the way the brain actually processes the pain signals it receives. Depending on how our brain reacts, can determine how the body reacts. This is good news for those who suffer with the challenges of chronic pain.
How your brain reacts to the pain sensation can influence you and allow you to feel more empowered, more in control. There are various ways that I can help you retrain how your brain reacts to pain sensations whether it is a short term pain challenge or you suffer with chronic pain.
Hypnosis: Hypnosis works on the subconscious level of the brain and through post-hypnotic suggestion we can work together to reduce the pain sensation.
Relaxation: Learning relaxation methods such as focused, deep breathing allows the body to release tension from the muscles and reduce the pain sensation. Breathing is only one of the relaxation techniques that can retrain the body’s reaction to the pain sensation.
Visualization: Visualization is a form of imagery distraction that retrains the brain to focus on a mental scene or word to allow the brain to focus on something other than the pain sensation.
